Preparing for Surgery Spacer

On the day of your surgery you should eat a normal breakfast and take all your normal daily medications unless advised otherwise by your doctor. Smokers are strongly recommended to discontinue smoking at least one week before the surgery to improve the body's wound healing abilities and reduce the risk of complications. Some patients require a light sedative for their surgery and it is recommended all patients arrange someone to drive them home afterwards. Additional information will be provided at the time of your consultation

Country Patients Spacer

Patients from rural Victoria and interstate may be referred to us for a surgical procedure. In such cases your referring doctor may communicate with us and arrange for you to be booked directly for your procedure. Our practice nurses will make contact and discuss what is involved with the surgery and you will have a consultation with the dermatologist on the day of the surgical procedure.

Fees and Billing

Patients are entitled to a partial Medicare refund if a valid referral is presented at the time of consultation. Veterans with a DVA Gold or White Card will be fully covered for the cost of all treatments including the doctor's fees and theatre fees.

Victorian Dermatology and Surgery set their fees at a level that is fair and reasonable. Upon making your booking you will be informed of your doctor's consulting fee. If additional procedures are required, you will be informed prior of these additional costs. Accounts are to be settled on the day of consultation.

If you require a surgical procedure this is likely to be done at The Avenue Private Hospital, Windsor. For patients with hospital private health insurance we have a "no gap" payment (no out of pocket expense) arrangement with most health funds on the surgical fee and Day Surgery fee for procedures other than those that are for cosmetic reasons. Our staff will be able to assist you in determining your level of cover. All fees and any out of pocket expenses will be known before the surgery.

Some minor procedures are performed in our surgical suite located at our consulting suites. If this occurs, private health insurance does not apply and the costs of surgery will be discussed with you at the time of consultation before the surgery.
